Well! We all are well-aware of this term COVID 19. Honestly, in my opinion, this is probably going to be in the Guinness world record book as the most spoken and heard word of 2020. Keeping the humor apart, the Coronavirus is a serious illness, responsible for ruthlessly taking the lives of millions of people worldwide. Each country has formulated its way of fighting and tackling this problem depending on their socio-demographics. This disease has led to a great loss of mankind and is spreading at a crazy rate each day.
What are we required to do in this critical time so that we don’t support this virus to take the lives of more people? Well! We don’t have to do much, but it is important for each one of us to play our part responsibly. Nobody wants to be a reason for someone’s death, don’t you? If you want to ensure the safety of people in your surroundings and yourself, you have to take precautionary measures seriously. Now I know you already know what these precautionary measures are? But it is important to understand rather than just knowing.
Why Is Social Distancing Important?
Social distancing is one of the most major precautions we have to take to prevent the spread of the virus. Coronavirus takes 14-15 days to show its symptoms, but what if anyone carries the disease but has not completed the period of 14-15 days required to show symptoms? If this infected individual meets anybody during this time, he is likely to transfer the virus to those individuals. It does not stop here; these newly affected people then transmit the disease to more people they would meet, and the multiplication cycle would continue.
To avoid this spread, it is important to limit and stop our interaction with people, and that is why social distancing is important.
What Is the Science Behind All the Precautionary Measures?
1. What Role Does Washing Hands Play?
You must have heard a countless time that washing your hands frequently is the only way you can get the Coronavirus away from yourself, right? But do you know what type of soap you should use? Why is it said repeatedly to wash your hands often? What is the scientific logic behind it? If no, then this blog is being written to make you aware of what you can do to keep your body and mind sane during this COVID 19.
Well, for keeping your body safe and protected, you have to strictly follow all the precautionary measures. Washing your hands helps you to wash off the virus from your hands if you have acquired it. You must be wondering how this is all going to happen with just washing hands. Let me tell you the back story; viruses have a coating of protein and fats around them that enable them to stick to similar coating. Our skin has protein, and this enables the virus to stick onto our hands. Now, what happens when we wash them? Well, fats quickly dissolve in soapy solutions, yes! These viruses having a fat layer, dissolve into the soap and washes off our hands like this. But it takes a little longer to happen; that is why washing hands for at least 20 minutes is crucial.
Now, there is a debate going on that what type of soap will do the job. To be honest, any kind of soap safely packed in soap boxes will perfectly do the job. It’s not about the chemistry of soaps; it is about the action any soap will have on fats.
2. What Impact Does Covering Our Face Can Have?
There are three primary routes for the virus to enter either through inhalation, via eyes or mouth, so we must cover our mouth and nose adequately. It will prevent the inhalation of the virus. Luckily this virus is of size 100nm; that is why we don’t have to be precise about the type of mask we use any mask will do the job.
3. Why It Is Important to Sanitize and Disinfect Certain Items?
All of us are addicted to using our mobile phones, and we don’t even stop touching them even while eating. These mobile phones are carrier of many bacteria and viruses, which make it a source of infection. That is why it is essential to sanitize our mobile phones. In addition, all the things and surfaces like earphones, door handles, fridge, and staircases need to be adequately sanitized.
What Are the Major Symptoms of Corona Virus?
If you observe any of the following symptoms, call the helpline of your respected country to get help from the professionals;
- Dry cough
- Difficulty in breathing
- Congestion in lungs
- Fever
Don’t panic; just let yourself treated properly, and you will be fine.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you want this pandemic not to last longer, you have to be responsible and play your part precisely. Moreover, we must look around ourselves and help those who are not able to afford their food in these difficult times of lockdown. To keep your mind sane in this quarantine time, indulge yourself in time taking activities such as cooking, cleaning, reading, painting, writing, and much more. The less spare time you have, the less you will overthink the situation. Be happy to be safe; this shall too pass.
